Sambar powder recipe is a flavorful and aromatic powder. Sambar is one of the most delicious SOUTH INDIAN food often served with side as rice and some curry.
There are plenty of sambar powder recipe across India prepared with varying ingredients. The main ingredients are coriander seeds, cumin and some lentils.
Every time my mother in law prepare this best and aromatic powder and pack it for me. When I travel to my place. After some time I asked for her recipe and I made it on my own. Turn out to be so simple and easy-pesky. So I’m going to share the best ever sambar podi which can also be used for rasam as well.
Preparation time: 5mins Roasting time :15mins. Total time: 20mins
- Black pepper. – 50gms
- Cumin seeds. -50gms
- Red chilies. -50gms
- Fenugreek seeds. -50gms
- Toor dhal. -1/4 cup
- Coriander seeds. -1/4 cup
- Curry leaves. -10 to 15
TO MAKE THE SPICE MIX:
Dry roast all the spices separately in a heavy bottomed till they are roasted and turn it off when they turn aromatic.Set aside to cool
Grind them in a dry jar to a fine powder.Store it in a airtight container.
Can store up to 6 months.
- You can add up hing to the powder.I didn’t use it since I use them in the dishes.
- Do not burn any spices while roasting,the flavor of the masala will get spoiled.
- You can use this for sambar and rasam podi.Can also be used as curry powder
